3rd READNA Symposium on Advanced Nucleic Acid Analysis

28th of September 2012

Abstract:

The REvolutionary Approaches and Devices for Nucleic Acid analysis – READNA – consortium, funded through Framework Programme 7 of the European Commission, is composed of researchers from 10 academic institutions, 5 SMEs and 3 large companies. The goal of the READNA consortium is to revolutionize nucleic acid analysis methods. An important part of READNA is dedicated to the development of the next generation of nucleic analysis devices to manipulate individual DNA molecules in nanosystems and threading them through nanopores for sequence determination. These approaches will benefit from improved interrogation and detection strategies which are being developed. Our methods and devices will boost the possibilities of genetic research by closing in on the target of 1000 Euros for the sequence of a complete human genome, while at the same time leading a revolution in cost-effective, non-invasive early screening for diseases such as cancer.

The public symposium will provide an overview of key technological breakthroughs achieved during the 4 years of the READNA project. Key concepts that will be presented include DNA nanopore sequencing, DNA manipulation and analysis within nanofluidic devices and single cell sequencing within tissue samples. The symposium talks will be complemented by members of the READNA Scientific Advisory Board, who will discuss latest developments in Epigenetic and Single Molecule research. Finally data analysis solutions for current DNA sequencing technologies will be presented by researchers based in Barcelona.
